The Nuclear AMRC
The Nuclear AMRC is a joint initiative with industry, The University of Sheffield and The University of Manchester's Dalton Nuclear Institute, and is designed to help build and enhance the UK's civil nuclear new build industry.
Working in partnership with Government and business, the Nuclear AMRC is designed to be the focal point for the civil nuclear manufacturing industry in the UK. The services provided to consortium members will enable them to be match-fit to win and hold contracts in the global civil nuclear market place.
The consortium forms part of the Government's Low Carbon Industrial Strategy and is at the forefront of enhancing manufacturing capability by assisting members to increase quality, reliability and efficiency and reducing costs and complexity. It delivers this by taking laboratory tested processes into prototype real size pre-commercial manufacture with the necessary validation and accreditation processes.
The NAMRC was formally launched by Business Secretary and First Minister, Lord Mandelson, on 3rd December 2009, and is part of the Government's Low Carbon Industrial Strategy. The NAMRC is based on the same model as the highly successful aerospace Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre.
